A Black Magician once told me, that it is by killing another Practitioner of the Dark Arts with magic that the True Initiation is acquired. Such traditions are widely attested in folklore, such as in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice old Germanic legend. The warlock keeps a roster of disciples who are enslaved to him in a magical mill, and every year he challenges the oldest one to fight him with magic. They all fail and die, until one day, an apprentice overpowers him, and becomes the new master; that’s how the Black Lineage is propagated.
